Wheat for fodder: A new way of farming.
A farmer-owned company has created a wheat-for-meat solution.
The company, Wheat for Fodder Solutions, hopes to get the word out about its new offering and has already sold its first batch of wheat.
The wheat product is made from wheat, barley and other grain, and it can be fed to livestock and cattle.
“Our goal is to help farmers in developing countries in a number of ways,” said Greg Mather, chief marketing officer at Wheat for foyds.
“We can help them to diversify their food sources, help them in growing and reaping their own food, we can help in providing them with protein for their livestock, we want to help them diversify the food sources of their own family.”
Mather said the company hopes to have a few million kilograms of wheat in its system by March 2019.
“It’s a real product, it’s a protein supplement and it’s going to be very appealing to people, farmers, ranchers and people in general,” he said.
“I think the people that are going to benefit the most from this product are people in developing nations.”
In India, the country with the world’s largest population, some farmers have taken to using the crop as a livestock feed.
“The biggest issue with rice is that it is very difficult to grow and we have so much rice, that if it gets to be a year and a half, we’ll lose it,” said Sudhir Thakur, who is also managing director of the Indian Wheat Board, an agricultural association.
“So, it is a challenge for us to bring it to market.
We are working on it, we are working with other stakeholders to bring this to market.”
The company’s wheat product could be used to feed livestock and dairy cattle in a variety of countries, but Mather wants to see the company expand into the U.S. and Europe as well.
“As long as we can get people to use this product in a sustainable way, we think that’s a very good thing for the environment and for the farmers,” he told CBC News.
“That’s why we’re investing in the U.”
The wheat is a protein powder and can be used as a feed for beef, lamb, pork, chicken, turkey and eggs.
It has a high protein content and a low protein content.
The powder can also be used for livestock production.
It can be produced by small, family farms or by larger companies.
The U.K. and India are the two countries that Wheat for Food Solutions has tested its wheat product in.
“There is a lot of enthusiasm around this product, people are excited about it and we are in a good position,” said Mather.
“If we can start a conversation and get more people to see this product and hopefully start buying it, I think it’s something that will go a long way.”
He added that there’s currently no plans to expand into other countries.
“You cannot get your products in countries without being able to get it from somewhere,” he explained.
“In the U, we don’t have that luxury.”
The first batch is being shipped out of the United States and Canada.
It’s expected to arrive in other markets by mid-March.
“What we’re hoping is that we can bring this product to markets that are not currently available in the United Kingdom and other countries, and we will be able to bring the product to them as well,” Mather added.
“And we think we can do it by the end of the year.”
